Tips for your Headshot Session

Preparation

For your headshot session, you will look more relaxed in your headshots if you wear clothing that you are comfortable in. This will help you to look your best, comfortable and confident. Plain solid and neutral colours work best for headshots, in well fitting clothes. Avoid “loud” patterns, and bright logos. The main point of a headshot is to keep the focus on your face and not what you wear. Avoid clothing that wrinkles or bunch up easily. Simple is best.

Have a lint roller or clothes brush ready for a last minute brush down before your headshots are taken. It’s surprising how much stray hairs and fluff can show up on your clothes in your photos!

Also, have a mirror and a hair brush handy to make sure you look your best.

We offer a range of different background colours, including grey, white, black, blue, and mottled grey, with both light and dark versions available of the mottled grey. We can also throw a natural indoor background out of focus, which draws the eye to the subject. For outdoor headshots, you can choose a local park or gardens, weather permitting. For creative headshots, we tend to choose an urban location, with graffitti and street art as a background, with lots of great locations around the Bristol area.

Have accessories and props ready for your headshot session, such as hats, sunglasses, etc. For women, jewellery including necklaces, earrings, can enhance your look. Also, wearing a jacket will give you a different look and style.

For Actor headshots, think about what kind of part or character you are looking to portray, then dress accordingly. If it's comedy, then maybe loud flashy tops will work better for you.

A great way to relax in front of the camera, pull some funny faces, works every time!

Practice your smile. This might sound strange advice, but we photograph so many people who are not sure which is their best smile. With teeth, mouth closed, cheesey grin, etc, etc. But we will take a good selection of different expressions for you to pick your favourites.

We offer a mobile service for headshots, we bring the studio to you, at your place of work, home, or outdoor location, weather permitting. We can arrange studio hire, in the Bishopston area of Bristol, for an extra charge.

A deposit secures the date and time of your headshot session. At the session, we take a large selection of images, to make sure we capure your best expressions and poses. These are given a basic edit of colour correction and cropping, before uploading to a private galley on our website. We then email you the link and password, so you can make your final headshot selection. Your chosen headshots are given a final edit . Your balance of payment is then due, before we send you the images, via WeTransfer. These will be high resolution jpeg images with full usage rights. Extra images will also be available to purchase.
